Great to see speed has increased. Interesting to see by how much.

But a few things not mentioned in the keynote which I would've liked -
• no improved angle detection.

• Also want to know if it's smarter in the sense of re-scanning, post-failure, more often.

• But the main concern to me about the new Face ID system is that no support for Landscape mode was mentioned at the Keynote.

It has me worried as I was expecting the new iPads to contain the same Face ID unit as these new iPhones.

Now, if they end up sharing the same unit, that means no Landscape Face ID unlock for the new iPad Pros, which is a big negative for me.

Me too. If the new Pro only supports portrait for Face ID, I will pick up a 10.5 Pro before they are gone, hopefully.

I'll just stick with my Air 2, as I'm sure next years would have it, & iPads are something I don't upgrade often, so don't want to be stuck with a 2 gen old model of earlier this year(?) :(

Seems like the FaceID update, while welcomed, is going to be mild and might not quite be the gen 2 we are hoping for - they spent about 10 seconds noting two small changes during the keynote and that was that.

The real kick in the pants would be if iPad Pros next month had far superior FaceID that won't make it into the phones until next year.

Fine by me (wasn't in the market for a new iPhone this year anyway).

I share your concerns. I lost my iPad at the beginning of July and have been excited about the new iPads based on rumors. It sucks not having my iPad, but I've been patient hoping it will be worth the wait. Not to mention waiting for insurance money. I guess if I don't care for what they offer this year (assuming they actually announce new iPads this year), I'll just grab another 10.5" while I can. It was an amazing device.

What generation of Face ID is integrated into iPhone Xr?

I know that Xs and Xs Max have the 2nd generation Face ID, but I couldn't find any confirmation regarding the Xr version.

It's the same across the board.

Rumours suggested the Xr would get last year's Face ID, but it got the same as the Xs/Xs Max.

Another feature Face ID unlock should have is that the user could swipe up from the bottom of the screen when the phone is asleep & then be taken straight to the home screen. As oppose to waking the phone first.

The XR surprised me. I think it’s going to do really well for the price and incorporates latest A12 processor and second Gen face ID as the other iPhone X models.
