If Face ID is indeed coming to Macs, does anyone know if these will be based on the chip (M1 or M series) or on the OS? I'm wondering if the current M1 Macs would be left out in the cold if this feature arrived next year.

The OS would have to support it, but you’d also need the right hardware. The M1 Macs don’t have the right camera or infrared dot projector needed that the current FaceID implementation uses, so they won’t be getting it either way.

Thanks for the edification.
