Can anyone else use Face ID to approve app store purchase requests from their family? It's making me put in my iTunes password every time. I have Face ID setup for iTunes and the app store.

yeah i dont family share so im not sure about it. But today i went to download another free app and i had to put my password in before face id.

i think its a build in security after a certain amount of time you have to enter the password in again for face id to work. Then i downloaded another free app and i only had to use face id.

I think it’s the title of this thread that has people confused, as it’s not specific to family sharing. The original poster states having issues approving purchase requests from his kids (under family sharing)....which I and others are having as well. We don’t even get the prompt to double click...and if we do it just brings up Apple Pay. This is different than those trying to just simply buy an app on their own iphoneX

Anytime I try to download an app that has in-app purchases or has a cost associated with it, I get an animated "double click the side button to use Face ID" and then it scans and installs.

Are you specifically talking about approving purchases for other users via a family share or in general?

Yes I am trying to approve app download requests from my daughter. Before I was able to use touch ID to approve now with iPhone X it makes me enter my iTunes password everytime. Doesn't even pop up with the double click the side button prompt.

Not even an Animoji can portray the sadness I feel when I purchase something from iTunes and have my Thumb (or Face) ready to pay only to see.... "Enter Password". Argh.

Same issue here. I can authenticate with FaceID for purchases, but when approving requests for my kids, I have to enter my Apple ID password every time.
+1. Really annoying miss. I always wonder if the software developers actually use the devices themselves in daily life and experience the same annoying issues. You'd think they would bubble up on the product manager's priority list of fixes before silly things user can handle themselves like a new wallpaper. Phone and software are great, don't get me wrong. But it's those little decisions that boggle my mind sometimes.

Mine didn't work at first, but then one time it prompted me to put in the password to enable it. After that it's scanned my face every time.

It did ask for that the first time, but still, every time I try to approve an app store purchase that my son is trying to make, it makes me put in my password. If I try to buy an app in the app store it will scan my face and have me double tap the side button to complete the purchase.

You don't double tap the screen...you double click the side button.
.

Thank you so much SisterBlue22! I was on with Apple support for over two hours and was switched to a top tech. U actually helped me while he was away trying to figure out the problem. I wish the screen would say "Double Click on the side button to install" would help old people like me tremendously! lol. Thanks again!

Same issue here. I can authenticate with FaceID for purchases, but when approving requests for my kids, I have to enter my Apple ID password every time.

My 12 year old asks for a dozen apps a day! Now, every request requires me to poke in my password. Makes me miss the Touch ID. Please fix this Apple.

Right, it has always worked fine with Touch ID but for those of us that have upgraded to the X, we are made to enter our password (via the keyboard) for EVERY request one of our children makes for every app. Even the free ones. Apple needs to make the Face ID an option for this soon! Hopefully before Christmas when several of the kids get new apple toys!

In the meantime, Mom gets to approve any app requests, via Touch ID, on her iPhone 7 :)

Exactly! Approval nightmare during Christmas. Feedback provided :)

I have exact same issue. Such a backwards step. Useless and pointless. If apple doesn’t trust if for family share, how can they be happy for it to be used for Apple Pay.

Complete joke Apple.

Just got my first confirmation since the upgrade, and it isn’t working for me yet. I wonder if it has to ask for a password once before it activates. I’ve already toggled App Store in Face ID settings.

I’ll see what happens next time. :)
Just had to approve another download, and this time it allowed me to use Face ID.

App approvals will be a lot less annoying from now on. :)

Nope, doesn’t work for me. Can’t get the double tap to work to activate the Face ID. Works in every other app, without any action required.

It doesn't even ask me to approve with face id, just pops up with the password screen.

Did you go to Settings -> Face ID & Passcode , then toggle on iTunes & App Store ? This brings up the double tap for Face ID option. That option does not work for me.

I’ve noticed the same thing when my daughters are asking for apps. I think I had to put the password in twice so far....with no option to ask me to use Face ID. I remember with finger Id I had gotten a prompt whether to use finger Id for app purchases. Maybe you have to double press the wake button? I haven’t tried that.
