Once you turn it on is there anyway to turn this off
Facebook keeps making changes and putting facebook profiles on a few friends in my address book even though they dont have facebook so I just want to turn it off.I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling but you dont get an offer to delete

On the Sync Page itself (Facebook > Friends > Sync) Hit the giant 'Remove Data' button :) Should fix it for you hopefully :)

Lol! I do not like it either. It does work for some people, but setting thr contact entry "mom" to my 12 year old nephew who has a spot in contacts already.... Has no justification at all!

It is linking by email address of the contact in the address book and what is on Facebook. You will notice that pic's are downloaded for all the contacts, not just those that are friends.

I have the 3.1.1 version, on a jailbroken iphone 3GS on 3.1.2.

When I click to sync and it asks to "Accept Terms" I choose "I agree" and it searches for contacts for about 1 second and then shuts down. No contact sync. Nothing.

I've tried all different approaches but same result.

Any ideas?

p.s. I sync my contacts through the Google sync which uses push, could this be an issue?

I also use Google Sync, and I didn't even bother to try it. I had a feeling they would forget about us... Very few of my phone contacts have facebook accounts anyways.

I don't care about the contact details, but would love the pic's to sync with their profile pics.

Not syncing with email address, don't know what it syncs with

I know that it is not syncing with email addresses because I have a contact named Jeff with no email address and it still pulled a photo from I have no idea where to match with the contact. Also, I have a sister and niece with the same last name and first initial, different email addresses and it syncs both contacts as my sister.

After today's update I deleted sync data and resynced and it still gave me the same errors.

Oh well, hope they fix problems soon.

Not trying to be a jerk...
But it does not get the pictures from your friends profiles based on the e-mail addresses. because I have only one or two people in my contacts with an e-mails, yet it found profile pictures for everyone but my mom and dad and a few other stragglers or people who don't have a Facebook.

I synced mine then disabled it but left the data. It got most of my contacts correct but I just go back and edit the ones it gets wrong.

I agree I don't think it's doing it by email address cause a couple contacts with no email had stuff synced. Weird thing was the Facebook profile name and my contacts name were not even close. It's okay but hopefully they can fine tune it.

It primarly uses phone numbers. I synced my 3000+ iPhone contacts and had dozens of contacts (with same company phone #) come back with the same single employee profile. It seemed be overided by an email address if one was found on Facebook.

Also, it didnt screw anything up with my Exchange sync. It did add the profile picture and FB link in contacts. It wouldn't add the FB link if you already had a home page listed on the phone or in Outlook. This made it challenging to find some of the mistakes becuase now some of my contacts have wrong photos and no FB link to who the photo is from. Trust me, some of the photo's are worth trying to find the FB people they belong to!

Out of 3000+ contacts it found about 200+ FB profiles. About 25 were wrong. 1 was from a foreign country and the profile was not in english.

Perhaps the mistakes are old or changed phone/cell numbers.

I was also worried I would end up with thousands of contacts in my FB phonebook, but it didn't seem to transfer anything from the iPhone into FB (except the big brother server in the backroom).

All and all I'm pretty happy. I now have hundreds of my clients personal FB links.

We'll see if FB starts to suggest these as my friends. Then I can tell if they saved all the data somewhere.
