I just got notified about this on Facebook

http://www.new.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=35011171354

It's been a few weeks since we released Facebook for iPhone 1.1, and many of you are wondering what's next. Let's take a look at some of the upcoming features in version 2.0, which will arrive in the App Store in September. You'll be happy to know that this release brings the app a lot closer to matching all of the functionality of the Facebook website.

News Feed

In version 1.1, the News Feed contained only status updates and mobile photo uploads. In version 2.0 you will have the exact same News Feed experience as on the Facebook website. You will be able to see your friends' Posted Items, new interests and relationships, photos, and all other stories that pass through News Feed. You'll be able to comment on every story, and filter the feed by certain categories, applications, and friend lists, just like on the new Facebook.

Notifications

You'll be able to see all of your Notifications on the Home tab, and new Notifications will arrive in real-time while the app is running. We're preparing for the release of Apple's new push service, which will allow us to deliver Notifications to your iPhone even when you're not running Facebook for iPhone. I expect that to be one of the features in the next version after 2.0.

Profile Redesign

Profiles now have a tabbed design, like the new Facebook website, and a combined Wall and Mini-Feed.

Search for and Approve New Friends

This has been a popular request. You will now be able to search for people beyond your own Friends, request their friendship, and approve your own friend requests.

Inbox

In version 1.1, you can only see the first 30 messages in your Inbox. In version 2.0, you will be able to see older messages, all the way back to the beginning. You'll also be able to search your Inbox and see your Sent folder.

I'm not a fan of the combined wall and mini-feed, which is why I haven't switched over to new.facebook.com yet.

FINALLY! This is all good news.

Curious about the included screenshots, though. In the first two images, what's with the weird second row of buttons? The first one has the beginning of "posted items" on the right. The second one has the last part of "photos." Is this a scrollable, left-to-right bar, or something? If so, it looks really weird like this. I would think just using arrows would have worked better. Unless this is some sort of bug already?

Anyway -- who cares? I'm super excited for notifications, friend accepts, and a usable inbox!!! Woo hoo!!

Would be amazing to have chat notifications by push too when that is launched. I wonder if they will?

Better still would be Parlingo to support facebook chat!

ah! bliss.

I love the facebook web app, and the iPhone application, but was bewildered when the app wasn't a bettered version of the web app (iphone felt like version 1, web app like version 2).

This looks to be the best combination of the two. Very much looking forward to it!

AMAZING! i cannot wait for this app. This is one of my most used daily apps! Facebook has got to be the best social site ever considering friendster, myspace, virb, classmates.com etc...

Facebook is like the OS X of socialnetworking. Very clean and nice layout compared to all the other bloated overly done sites.

This is one of the best apps for the iphone. Keep up the great work!

I like the look of what's comming, I've found the iPhone app has almost enough features for me to never really bother going on facebook at home...

The intial release was lacking alot but it's going from strength to strength now...
