When updating a status through Facebook app, it advertises it lets people know that you used your iphone, is there a way to eliminate this?

Nope. Maybe request the feature to the developer, but I doubt it will get added.

I would like the feature because it can look snobbish to have it always say iPhone...

No, this can’t be changed. Note, however, that Facebook (and Twitter, for that matter), use this for any application that updates your status. Meaning that if you update your status from a Blackberry, it'll say "Updated from Facebook for Blackberry" or "Facebook for Android" or "Facebook for iPhone".
