Facebook, Apple cover women's egg-freezing

Read the article there, I can't quote it all for your reading ease without getting an infraction.

The TLDR is:
Apple and Facebook are wanting to freeze their female employees eggs so they can have children later.

[edit] Added another article about the same subject.

I keep my eggs in the fridge. If they get old I buy new ones. No need to freeze anything.

So you visit your local cryogenicist to buy more human female eggs when the ones you have previously bought go off from improper storage?

Jokes aside - I don't know how ethical this is. But if it gets the women to keep working as they are paid to do and not exploit maternity leave laws to get paid to do things that are not working for the business they are employed to do so at then I am all for it.

:apple: is a private company. Why would anyone care what they freeze? Unless you maybe own :apple: stock

As far as I know Apple is a publicly traded company on the US stock exchange.
And secondly I care because of the principle of the matter. People are paid to work and not to take time off to have children. You can not say in a job interview, "I will employ you only if you work and do not take time off to have children". The women cry discrimination then (if an employer was to say that in a job interview) and the governments appease these women. A shame I know. Hard to get workers these days who want to work.

Apple and facebook are trying to work around these unfortunate issues and in a way I am proud of them.

Sounds like they're offering woman who want a career track an option to having babies later. I don't see this as any evil underhanded intention. They're no dissuading woman who work there from going on maternity leave.

I'm possibly going to take an unpopular opinion on this one, even though I couldn't really care less what Facebook and Apple choose to freeze.

I have my concerns, for the possible kids born from this. Most women have to chose between their career and kids, an unjust and unfair choice some may think, but the fact is life is full of choices for everyone has to make sacrifices on this world since time is our only real penny. I'm not convinced that women who choose to put their career first and then have kids later on in life thanks to frozen eggs will be very good parents. And before y'all jump on me for that, I'd like to justify what I mean.

Kids should not be an afterthought. I'm saying that as a hypocrite and as someone who has kids totally by accident. But having them made me realize quickly how very important it is. By freezing eggs for later and putting careers first, now kids can be treated as an afterthought, just a thing to be done when older. I don't think older people will have the ability to control kids as well as younger parents do and whereas older people can certainly offer a certain wisdom that younger parents cannot, I rang rings around my grandmother. She couldn't keep up with me and other than the occasional day I'd be at her house, she would have no hope of bringing me up alone.

Now I'm not saying woman cannot do this. In fact, I kind of like the idea. But I dislike the idea of having even more screwed up kids thanks to lackluster youths. And I'm concerned that older parents will not be able to control their kids and I'm also concerned that people who put their careers first will be able to provide a good upbringing for their kids.

I'm hoping I'm wrong. And I'm sooo glad the downvote button doesn't exist anymore, because I understand I'm firing some dangerous shots here. And it is quite unlike me to be prejudiced to age and lifestyle choices or anything, so please understand that these are merely concerns and not something that is set in stone in my mind.

It's not "what Facebook and Apple choose to freeze." It's the individual woman's choice. All Facepalm and Apple are doing is footing the bill.

Aside from career choices, some women may opt for the procedure because they haven't met a man they want to marry or father a child.

I didn't realize that women had children and took maternity leave because they didn't want to work. Good to know.
