Facebook Chat in Messages, working?

Anyone tried connecting Facebook chat with the Messages app (under OS X 10.8.2)? For some reason Messages can't log on to my Facebook chat, I haven't tested on earlier OS X versions.

I'd recommend turning off most of the notification sounds from within Messages though as I found it kept making door noises and such when people were logging in and out of Facebook.

Once setup you will need to open up the buddies box to see who is on line and to initiate a chat. Otherwise you can't see them.

Not only can you save the entire conversation through messages, but the conversation shows up archived within Facebook.

Hope it works for you. If not I'd check my firewall settings.

I thought it would have been integrated within messages too, but maybe that is for a later update, as I don't see the integration very noticeable unless you set it up and even then I haven't figured it all out.

I use this method, and it still works even though iChat changed to Messages. Just turn off all of the notification noises because the app goes crazy as people log in an off Facebook.

Thanks! Seems like the problem was a special character in my Facebook password.

i'm still trying to work out if it's possible to get a visual notification when a facebook user signs on (or off).

i always have my buddy list minimised so I can never tell who is coming on without having the bring the buddy list up again.

Facebook has instructions on how to Facebook chat on their website. Google "Facebook chat ichat" and it will show you the page

I use facebook chat without problems in Messages since the beta came out for Lion.
