This is rather interesting and worrying. Let's say you have Facebook and have nothing synced to Facebook on your smartphone or computer. A friend of yours buys a new iPhone 5 and turns off all access to contacts for Facebook. The name used for Facebook is not related and the email address is an email for applications. Upon setting up Facebook the Facebook application starts asking you whom you would like to add by recommending and suggesting possible on tracts that you may know. The scary part is that all the contacts that are in your contacts list of which have a Facebook account are suggested to you. This means that Facebook actually has access to your contacts whether you allow them access in the privacy settings or not
The privacy setting pretty much mean nothing at all on the iPhone 5.
I think it is about time smartphone manufacturers start manufacturing smartphones with heavily encrypted smartphones which come with two flash drives built in them. One for various applications of which we will call flash B and one for all the personal information of which we will call flash A. All the personal stuff such as call logs,SMS messages,emails,contacts and pictures go on Flash A and all the downloaded applications go onto Flash B. this way things are kept separate and insure privacy of end users with smartphones.
