So I’ve got tracking turned off by default and turned off for every app I use however I’ve noticed Facebook and Instagram show me ‘relevant’ adds based on recent safari browsing.

I thought this was stopped with the privacy tracking feature?

Have I misunderstood or are Facebook cheating the system here?

This doesn’t stop tracking altogether. Facebook has other ways to track you…cookies, IP address, etc.

Last year I was home visiting my parents for a weekend, and one day I was browsing a site for gift ideas. Later that day, I was watching my mom scroll through her FB feed. An ad went by saying ‘continue where you left off’ and showing the product I was last looking at. We were using completely separate devices and accounts, so clearly they were doing some sort of IP tracking in this case.

Facebook will still access other data for ads. What "Do not Track" does is prevent tracking using the UDID to create a profile, it doesn't prevent a general overview of tracking. Normally, I'd say look at having Private Relay enabled as all traffic is directed to a anonymous data stream that makes Facebook's life much, much harder.

Thank you, I’ve enabled private relay. Is there any way to whitelist a specific URL for private relay as it prevents one intranet page loading.
