Hey there, good to post my first discussion here after years of just watching newsfeed.

I’m using iPhone 11, iOS 13.4
FaceID works with my mask on, even if I didn’t registered my face with my mask on!

I think it’s bug. Would you try your faceID with some mask on?

FaceID works with my ski goggles on, so depending on the mask, I believe it.

Does it recognise someone else wearing a mask? Then it's a problem.
Does it recognise you wearing a mask? That's an excellent implementation.

Good day. I'm new to the forum. I have some ideas for developers. FaceID completely detects a person's face, recognizes many aspects and advanced mathematical calculations along with a high-quality camera. Thank you for this Apple technology. But what about using FaceID hardware and software to "measure" human temperature? Specifically, the camera does not know what temperature a person is, but based on what a person looks like. For example, "glass eyes" at elevated temperatures, sweating, red eyes and many other symptoms. FaceID could help in this regard. Sorry to respond to a post, but as I have a new acc, I don't have the option to create a separate post. Sorry for bad English (Google Translate powered :D )

Not surprising that it works. It has no trouble with sunglasses, hats, beards, scarves, etc. The mapping technology recognizes the contours of your facial features and the whole face isn't required to match the profile in the secure enclave.

Sorry my response is late.
I posted this because I’ve been wearing mask for months becuase of the coronavirus and it never worked with mask on. And it’s working now magically after I updated!

Some note:
1. I think it’s not passing through my mask because it hasn’t work before update and it doesn’t work on low angle.
2. It doesn’t work on low angle. It works on at least horizontal level, same as my eyes’.
3. I wear my mask, of course, fully with nose and mouth disclosed. Like this: https://images.app.goo.gl/9HLt57xvAQjWkh8E7
4. I think it’s great now(it works even with my mask on! I don’t have to fill in passcode every time). But my concern is that I am not notified of this. Apple didn’t tell about this on their patch note! So I think it’s probably bug.

It's not a bug. Read my post above where I explain how it works.

Very interesting. A couple years ago, when I had my iPhone X, I was attending several surgeries for work and I could not get the iPhone to unlock with a surgical mask on.

From my brief experiments done some time ago, it seems to recognize two regions of your face; around your eyes and around your mouth. One of these can be covered, e.g. wearing sunglasses or wearing a scarf or mask, but not both.

I know that I had to reset the facial recognition on both my iPad Pro 11 and iPhone X after I shaved my beard off. I'm surprised that it would work with a mask.
