FaceTime: I can see him; he can’t see me

For no apparent reason, the FaceTime on my iPhone stopped taking me picture while I’m talking on it.

I can see my friend, but he doesn’t see me. I do not have the inset at all.

Can anyone figure this one out?

Close out all of your apps in the app switcher that have access to your camera and give it another try.

Something similar happened to me. Opened the camera app and the screen was black. It was apparently caused by the Amazon app doing something weird.

Well, as a matter of fact, it does not! I don't do selfies, so I've no idea how long that's been not working.

Yes, it is a clue. Factory reset your iPhone to check if that helps, or bring it to an Apple Store.

How did it go?

It was a hardware problem.

Apple now has the phone. They have since the 23rd.

I'm out of state for the next 18 days, dog-sitting my sister's dog while she climbs Mt. Everest, so I got a loaner, which is the reason they have had it so long.

I called yesterday and they have finally given up on repair and are sending me a new one. It should be at my home a couple of weeks before I am.
