I know the quality would look awful (or maybe not, just slow), but is FaceTime over EDGE possible on iOS 6 over T-Mobile's network?

They market it as facetime over CELLULAR not 3G.

FaceTime now works over cellular networks as well as Wi-Fi, so you can make and receive FaceTime calls wherever you happen to be.3 You can even make and receive FaceTime calls on your iPad using your phone number. That means you can use FaceTime wherever you are, on any device. And never miss another wink, smile, air kiss, or eye roll.

Read carefully. And in this case, it's not just the regular 3G, but only the cellular technology used by 4S onwards

The reason they say cellular instead of 3G is because it'll work on LTE iPads. And presumably upcoming iPhones.

It also won't work over EDGE. If it connects, it'll drop the video and be audio only, then it'll drop the call if there's not enough bandwidth.

I know this is an extremely old thread to bump, but I just wanted to let it be known that FaceTime over EDGE most definitely works in iOS 6. Not in a "PowerPoint" style either, the video wasn't choppy, just low quality. :)

I genuinely thought the download speeds for EDGE is pathetic, how do you even expect to have a video call over such a connection??

I dunno, but in my experience it worked pretty well. Then again, my cousin (the one I called) was on LTE. But I assumed that my EDGE connection was the bottleneck anyway.
