No, seriously Apple don't even let users change the SMS ringtone. It may become possible through Jailbreaking in the future.

Pardon the idiotic question but by SMS, you mean texting right? Because I'm able to change that and have done so in the past.

Again, I don't know why I'm thinking of this so much, but I wondered...

You can change it but only to a select few tones. You can't add new ones like you can ringtones.

Seems Apple is "over looking" quite a few things. Face Time ringtone would have been nice to change. So would custom SMS tones.

Custom SMS tones. Yesterday literally six of us had iPhones, all using the same tone for SMS, and we couldn't tell which was going off at what time. Frustrating!
