Any other long, coarse-bearded fellows unable to make animojis stop shaking when recording animations?

The mouth and lower half of the characters keep trembling like crazy when the sensors try to register my facial muscles, which are mostly covered by bristly hair.

Apple told me it is probably due to facial hair indeed. What a bummer. Shave beard or stick to epileptic unicorns?

Yes this happens to me too and I do have beard as well... Does it work correctly for you with high ambient lighting? Mine shakes under normal lighting and doesn't work at all in low lighting conditions.

Yes exactly the same issue. Have you tried to install the beta? I thought I'd rather not on my X, but I probably will now.

Issue occurs regardless of ambient lighting for me!

I would think that the IR matrix probably has a hard time registering information when it is bouncing off a non-smooth surface. Things like eye/brow movements and blinking are probably tracked OK, but the software probably has trouble with the lower area of the face, which creates the shakiness.

If you take a picture of your phone on the lock screen (without being unlocked) or with the Animoji, do you see the ir light projectors on the notch of the iPhone like in the videos and photos over the internet? I’ve found that mine is almost invisible... maybe that’s why it can’t see me without a lot of ambient light. Anyway it looks different than the ones I’ve seen in reviews.

I've just tried and got a more intense light in the projectors than in your photos, similar to first photo you posted. But it took me many a shot to get it to show properly. It's difficult to capture it at its most intense, so don't panic yet! Perhaps you could try with a video, and analyse frame by frame.
