Seems like technology is getting to the point where I feel like my privacy is no longer safe. 1st the fingerprint scanner, and now facial recognition. My concern is can we still opt out of using this and stick to the traditional password method to unlock our phones?

Not sure how I feel about using all these high tech features. I don't want high resolution photos of me being kept out there somewhere on the internet knowing that some people may have access to it to do anything illegal or what not. Identity theft has been around and it happens. Just wanted to to take precautions that's all.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of how Apple does security.

With TouchID your fingerprint is stored in a secured enclave ON THE DEVICE that no one, including Apple, has the key to. To get your fingerprint someone would have to physically take your device, find a way to hook up the home button to a reader and then proceed to try and break the encryption. Apple has no access.

FaceID is absolutely the same. On top of that, the entire contents of your device are encrypted. Again, Apple does not have the key.

I use passcodes too, but for a different reason. Not because I believe my fingerprints and face are being sent willy-nilly across the internet to some unsecure server in an unfriendly country.

One more thing to consider. Your face really isn't all that private. Unless you keep your head covered while outdoors or simply don't go anywhere, people can already see your face. Not letting your phone see your face isn't really doing anything at all to protect your privacy.

Safety and Privacy are 2 different things
Face ID offers safety as far as accessing your iPhone. But just having and using your iPhone is about how much privacy your giving up
Unfortunately the trade off is information that you get from websites etc in exchange for information about you
If you really want your privacy protected Don’t use a cellphone

If You ever venture out in public, your privacy was long gone before you even realized it. If you’re concerned about Face ID, that information is stored in the secure enclave of the iPhone, which no one has access to.

FaceID isn't a photograph anyway. Read up on it. There's no photo being taken, stored or transmitted. It's a mathematical representation of a 3D dot matrix. Non human readable.
