Does this happen on every single boot up? After an update, the first boot takes forever. This happens because stuff is being updated and whatnot.

Another thing I can think of is that you might have a CD in the drive when you boot the computer up. This makes booting take considerably longer as well.

I concur
when stuff is being updated...just wait. It'll take longer

Also, since the CD is inside the DVD ROM, it will be detected during startup, making the loading longer even though it might be say...a music CD.

Its not just the first boot... I know the first boot took forever.
But itshappenin everytime.and there is no cd in my drive

+ even m comp is feeling slow. I have 15 inch SR MBP. I have like 50 GB hard drive left. My RAM is hardly being used. Even when i am typing the word come on the dcreen after some time ... what do i do...

The same thing happened to my machines (PowerMac G4 dual 500 and 13" MacBook). There is slow startup like the first time after an update, except this happens on every startup. Very annoying! Is there going to be 10.4.11 before Leopard?

Start Disk Utility and check the "S.M.A.R.T. Status" of your hard drive. It should be "Verified."

While you're there, click the "Verify Disk" button and see if you have any errors.
