Ehmm I was so eager to play with the new MBA that I picked up enthusiastically from the Apple Store today that I messed up my install a bit.

Don’t want to go the terminal way but just a clean install but command-r doesn’t work anymore. Read something about the recovery mode (a la iPhone insert cable after x seconds power button) but have bad memories with iPhones spending nights to get out of recovery mode again.

is this the only way?

thanks!

Michel

So the recovery mode seems to be holding down the Power button which then goes in a new Recovery Mode. But beware (see my thread) as I had issues with Mac mini.

Hi, I have the same problem with a new MacBook Air M1. All the instructions tell me to hold down command-R during restart. This doesn't do anything... the computer just starts up as normal.
I've tested the mcscot's solution (hold down Power Button) but the MBA stop.... :'(
If U have a solution it should be great :)
Thx in advance

(Sorry for my poor English)

Hi, Command-R is the old way of getting into recovery mode. New M1 machines have a different way, power up and keep holding the Power Button until you get a recovery screen.
