I have watched YouTube etc about pressing certain keys before boot up as a method. I however have been totally unsuccessful at getting this to work. I even bought a wired keyboard as I thought the wireless keyboards need to connect at first boot up was the problem. This didn’t help. Is there another way from within the operating system to do it like on an iPhone??

Depends on what iMac you have. Internet Recovery is only available on later models. Earlier iMacs use the original DVD install disc. Helps if you provide details. Do youn actually mean an iMac Pro or an older iMac?

Holding down the "option" key while booting will allow you to either select the boot drive (if you have a DVD or bootable USB drive installed). It will also allow you to select disk utility to erase or format any hard drives in the system.

This option usually requires a wired keyboard.

Hold down option while you press the power button. It will work with a Bluetooth keyboard as well. If you are using a PC keyboard, hold down alt. You will see a list of boot drives. You will also see a menu asking you to choose a Wi-Fi network if your iMac is newer than 2010.

Ok I will try those two things again. I have tried numerous times with the keyboard a year or so ago to no avail. Interested in selling it but may end up just trashing it if it doesn’t work.
