im on an iPhone 6 so I can't speak for 6s.

upgraded to 9.0.1

I notice not that when I'm in an app. and I hit the home button to go to the home screen, I notice the "fade" is lagged but my issue isn't just that.

after it fades to the home screen and I immediately press another app icon. it doesn't register. I have to usually press it twice.

not to play devils advocate I might be being a little picky but it's def noticeable to me. when I hit the home button to exit an app its usually because I know what app I want to go to next and I'm so used to my layout I hit the icon immediately so I'm doing it fast but it doesn't register.

I can almost guarantee this hasn't happened prior to the update because I'm not doing it any faster than I normally would.

anyone else notice this?

Do you have Reduce Motion on? Maybe if you turn it off you'll be able to see when it's ready.

That lag is a result of 1GB of ram trying to power an OS that needs more than 1GB of ram. How do I know that? My iPhone 6s runs iOS 9 like magic. My iPhone 6 ran iOS 9 with lag and stutter everywhere. It was pathetic

Yes. It's a iOS 9 and above thing. See it on my air 2 and iPhone 6. Don't see it on the iPhone 6 and air 2 we have in the house that are still on 8.4.1

I've also seen it in message app. I'll finish typing and immediately hit send button and it does not register the tap. Have to sometimes hit it twice.

Nope. Does it as well on my air 2. It's not a ram issue.

Unless I'm completely incorrect, isn't graphics memory shared with the system memory? Or is that only on pre A7 devices?

Yeah you're right. I'm also not sure about A7+ chips. Doing a quick google only gave me old articles from 2012 down to 2009 info. I'm sure it must still be true, maybe Metal changes things? Metal uses 50% less CPU and puts more to the GPU all while being more efficient ("supposedly") Maybe that is more taxing on ram? But at the same time I can't imagine an animation (reduce motion off) or a fade (reduce motion on) would take up a whole lot.

It's more like the digitizer shuts off until the animation (or fade) completes fully.

Assuming graphics memory is still derived from the shared system Ram, then its entirely possible that iOS 9 uses more ram, leaving less ram for graphics thus causing lag in rendering animations.

However, i think the OP is more describing some other lag in the touch screen taking input (must be an iOS 9 bug).

Yeah the OP is talking about not being able to tap into another app right away until the fade (reduce motion on) completely finished. I don't think that has anything to do with ram, it's more all touch doesn't register until done with the animation.

Ah yeah completely right :) I went off on a random tangent :p

Lagwagon is correct. Before updating to iOS 9 and I had reduce motion on I would have to wait till the fade animation was finished before I could do anything.

I noticed exactly the same problem on my iPad Air 1, so no you're not alone with this.
iOS 9 is all about performance? Well, they reached the exact opposite for the iPad Air, this device feels like 4 years old now that it takes a whole second here and there to even react to some input.

Same think occurs on the air 2, it is an iOS 9 minor annoyance. Doesn't occur in 8.4.1

Wait a couple more days, there are people here who'll tell you again and again that iOS 9 has NO LAG WHATSOEVER. You'll start believing them eventually and the lag will become less noticeable. :)
Or, you know, nor everyone has the same experience.

I made a video of delay before on my Air 2. I noticed it immediately after upgrading to iOS 9 because I had to change my usage to adjust for it.

If you turn up the volume you can hear the relatively slow speed I'm touching the display. It still exist in iOS 9.0.2. I've already adjusted for it but with iOS 8.4.1 I couldn't physically move faster then the iPad could respond.

It's not related to RAM, it's poor optimisation on older devices, seeing as Apple would naturally make sure nothing of the sort would occur on their recently released flagships.

There should be no RAM constraints by exiting an app and launching another one, that task is related to the CPU which is more than capable of doing it without any issues.

As evidenced by the video above with the air 2 except the air 2 is their flagship regular size iPad.

so inert ahead and purchased the iPhone 6s Plus which is currently running on iOS 9, I didn't update yet.

my girlfriend has a 6 running on one of the versions of ios8 not sure which one but she never updated to 9.

even with the plus, I'm still noticing the fade lag we are all talking about.

I'm pretty much convinced it's ios9 now and slightly irked because I opted for an S which can't even perform this function faster than a 6 running an older iOS.

Couple of videos I took today showing the 8.4.1 vs 9.1, both devices are iPhone 6.

9.1 alot of taps not registering. 8.4.1 taps register right away.
