my ibook g4's suffered from a few too many drops over the years, and now the hard drive is failing, giving occasional hiccups here and there. it's kind funny if you combine the fact that it's also got a broken hinge and some missing keys (space, n and command). taking a snapshot in disk utility actually made me laugh. why is this funny? i don't know.

Why post a response to a thread that has no purpose...?

Ok, stupid moment question...

...if an image is taken from Disk Utility, and the drive then fails and a new drive is installed - how does one restore a Disk Utility image to a new hard drive?

Erm, whaddya mean mate? Are you talking about a disk image (DMG)? They're pretty universal and can be opened by any OSX machine. So, clearly you'd have to format the new drive, install OSX, and then mount the image. Is that what you mean?

It would also rather depend on where you stored the disk image file when you created it... if it was stored on the drive that failed, then, well...

Making a bootable clone to another drive with Carbon Copy Cloner or Superduper is probably the better policy

I'm kinda lost right now I must say...trying to follow along...

I must say though, RAM your definition of Expert is awesome!!
