Got a Mac Pro 4,1 updated to 5,1 which was running pretty nicely on a PCI-E SSD until it blinked off and the SSD never came back.
I had to replace the motherboard prior to the SSD failing and I think there replacement had older firmware though it didn't seem to matter. I flashed it hoping the SSD would come back but alas.

I restored from a backup taken from the SSD to a regular HDD in bay 1 and its working ok except when it goes to sleep it won't wake up again. When you press a key you can hear the machine wake, fans and disks etc, but the screen never comes back up, the caps lock doesn't light when pressed and if you unplug the mouse and plug it back in it gets no power from USB. I don't think the sleep issue was happening when the SSD was running.
Theres nothing screamingly obvious in the Console logs. I thought maybe it was Kernel Panicking on wake but no sign of any useful info. I just have to power it off and reboot to get it running again. No log entries I could find.

Anyone got any ideas please?

The first step is always check the BR2032 RTC battery voltage, replace it if below 3.00V.

Another thing, remove any USB devices before diagnosing sleep issues. Some external drives crash when Mac Pro goes to sleep, some Microsoft and Logitech mice/kb don’t wake from sleep.

PSUs can also cause sleep issues and after checking the usual reasons, when not waking from sleep is an indicative that the PSU needs refurbishment or replacement.

Doesn't have any external drives. The keyboard is an Apple one. Admittedly its ancient (Early PowerMac G4) but those things are pretty bulletproof as a rule. I'll try a different mouse and keyboard and check the battery. I checked the one on the old board but not the new one.

Thanks!
