Fair price for 1st Gen MBA?

What is a fair used price for a used first generation MBA 1.6, 80GB HDD, etc. ?
System is out of warranty over 6 months. What would you pay?

Also, is it worth upgrading the HD to a SSD? how much should i expect to pay?

my 15" MBP gets too heavy to carry around campus and the battery doesn't last. thinking of this as a second purchase.

Should i wait for new models to be announced?

I really don't think you should buy an original, but if you do buy it with the SSD already installed. Definitely don't spend $400 on an aftermarket drive after buying an original. Honestly, just buy a v 2,1 with an SSD and be done with it. Probably the same price as buying an original with an HDD and upgrading the SSD yourself.

You know i am hesitant mostly because the freezing issue the regular HDD brings to the MBA. is it all that bad?

i've been watching the market for a bit, people ask for 700-750$ but they don't seem to sell. someone is offering his for $600 (desperate, out of warranty). and still think that it's too much. what do you think?

Apple has a buyback program run by a third party, but advertised on the Apple website. Click on the link about recycling your computer. You can put in your specs and they give you a "quote" right there. If you accept the quote, they will send you a box to ship the computer to them. With your description, you'll be in the $400 range if I understood you correctly that you want to sell yours. If you are looking to buy, look at the "completed listings" on ebay.

If you are looking to put a SSD in your Rev A, the cheapest 128GB SSD I have found is an AMP:

However, I don't know anything about them. Others are Runcore and Photofast, which you can find info on by searching the discussions on this site.

I have a Rev A MBA, and am considering putting a SSD in also. I think the speed increase will be significant, but it won't solve the "heat issues" all the Rev A's seem to have.

Well I have a rev. A right now and its absolutely horrible. First the hard drive died then the screen went then after that was repaired the airport card broke then it came back with a broken usb port and know its going in for a logic board replacement. Honestly I hope it comes back broken again since Apple promised me a new one if there is another issue.

I have a Rev A MacBook Air, it has had mostly everything replaced, battery only lasts about 2 hours, and screws have been mysteriously falling out. I am going to offer it for $500 when I finally getting around to selling it.

I don't think it is really worth that much, but that's how much it sold for.

Just sold my first gen rev A 1.6 GHz w/ 80 gig hard drive on craigslist for $750, it was still under AppleCare warranty for another year and a half, in original box. Had many calls (20+) and maybe a third were serious buyers, and had offers in the $600-700 range.

Really liked my 1st Gen, never had any problems with it, but wanted a little more speed & capacity. Spent the extra dollars on 2.13GHz w/ SSD and enjoy the speed increase. Was it worth the extra $$$$.....time will tell.

I've got a Rev. A with the 80gb. The screen is flawless, I've never had overheating issues, and the hinges are fine. I've never had to take it in for any warranty work. It still does what I need it to do since I bought it (all I do is write and sometimes watch videos on hulu or itunes). I've got nine other laptaps and I spend $25,000 per year on computer equipment for personal use, but while the Air is my oldest, it is still my go-to for traveling light. Don't let others tell you what you need. Figure out your own needs and see which computer is appropriate for you.

I sold my pristine Rev A MBA about seven months ago for $750. The unit had no problems besides those discovered in it's design and manufacture.

I bought a Rev A around christmas time for $515, it had been a refurbished one and the battery had under 20 cycles.
