Fairly new to Mac, and wanting to buy EyeTV.

Ok here it goes,

I have just bought an iMac 20", 2.4Ghz, 2Gb RAM, 500GB model. It is currently running the OSX Leopard 10.5.2.

I'm looking now to expand it's capabilities to include freeview and recording.

I've been looking at the 'EyeTV for DTT' stick and wondered whether it would suit my needs, as I don't really understand what it does. To my understanding it's a small box, which has freeview (DVB-T) built in? - and therefore if I plug a run of the mill digital external ariel wire into it (which runs to the ariel on my roof), it would produce/relay freeview to my iMac?

We have pretty good reception of freeview where I am, but i'm just trying to clear a few things up before I go ahead and buy.

Yes, I believe the EyeTV device will do as you wish.

Go ahead and get it - it's brilliant and very easy to set up. I've just got rid of my tv and replaced it with an iMac and eyetv. It will allow you to watch and record main channels plus freeview, and has various options for exporting the recordings.

A free year's subscription to the tvtv site is included (it's only about £14 a year anyway) which allows you to set up a recording schedule over the internet - it will even turn your iMac on to record something.

You might want to think about getting Toast 9.0 if you want to make DVDs. This also allows you to stream things you have recorded over the internet so you can watch them on an iphone or ipod touch etc. I've not managed to get this to work yet though.

I believe if the device is bundled with 'EyeTV 2 Software', you are also eligible for a free upgrade to 'EyeTv 3 Software' through the website ... so I'll be sure to do that.

I second that. In particular the movie editor is great for removing ads etc from your recordings
