I’m not sure I would have trusted signing in on that device until I was sure it was an authentic Apple product.
How can I be sure it’s real? It comes up iPad mini on iTunes FaceTime works ect ?

Can't you tell if it's running real IOS? A fake would be running Android in an IOS skin and it would be quite obvious.

Maybe it’s just me, but any Apple device purchased from someone other than Apple, or a trusted person, should always be suspect. Connecting to iTunes would reveal its true nature.. which is why @19SK91 posed that question. I don’t think there is any need for worry since iTunes verified it.

Says ios9 it’s a 1st generation iPad mini. Seems to be running Apple software

I meant the way it runs. If you're familiar with the speed and smoothness of IOS, it will be quite obvious if it's a fake. The UI is really good in some of the clones so just looking might not always give it away. Check the Appstore. If you're previously downloaded apps/account is there (assuming you have some), then I would say it's real. The AppStore on a clone will either just bring you to Google play or maybe not even work at all.

The info in Settings > General > About should also reveal the device’s true nature.

If recognized by iTunes, then it's real.

And no one is going waste time making a fake 1st Gen iPad mini.

well that’s not completely true. OP bought on eBay. Remember there was a day that the 1st gen Mini was new. We have no idea how long ago it was made. I’ve seen 1st gen clones in Asia that we’re used, as in they were made several years back.

Yeah, as above. If it runs iOS and is recognised by apple servers (iTunes, iCloud etc) it is most certainly not fake. iOS nor iTunes simply wont recognise a cloned/fake device and most definitely wouldn’t let it sync or download. Its legit imo
