Well, further to this article, and contrary to my advice, my housemate decided to buy a 'genuine new' 85W MagSafe 1 charger from eBay after his gave up the ghost. The fact it was £20 immediately alterted me that it probably wasn't genuine.

Pretty genuine looking. I called Apple & they confirmed the S/N doesn't flag up as genuine. After 35 minutes on the phone, I was surprised they didn't want to do anything like get the eBay listing and investigate further, but I guess that's their choice.

Just to reiterate it's best to be careful with this sort of thing. What do you think -- send back to the seller? Or take it to an Apple Store for them to dispose of?

Sorry for the poor quality of the photos, I need a few more cups of coffee to perk up.
