Word on the street is that Canon will announce "Double Rebates" which start on Sunday the 15th. I'm getting a 5D and a 24-70mm f/2.8L! And I convinced my work to pay for it! :D

Cool, but what "24 - 70 IS" are you talking about?

I don't get it. If you buy a 100 mm f/2.8 macro lens, you save $30? Is that a big deal?
Oh, and if you buy 2 of them, you save $60? Isn't that just multiplication?
It's not for two of the same item -- it's for two different items on the list. (Some of the lenses cost less in general so there is less of a rebate.) On the more expensive lenses, you can couple it with a flash etc. and save $100 just on the expensive lens. Here is a better example:

If you only want an EOS 5D and nothing else, you're actually better off buying both the 5D and a cheap item like the 75-300 because the 75-300 will cost you under $150, you'll end up paying less for the two than for the 5D alone (you get $600 back instead of $300 back) - plus you can always sell the lens.

And it actually says you can't use the rebate to buy two of the same item. You have to buy two different ones.

Although, for me personally, $100 off a $1200 lens is meaningless... :(

Well, it is still $100 more in your pocket if you were going to get the gear anyway - but I hear you, some of these lenses are crazy expensive.

It is nice that you can shop around from almost anywhere and get the independent rebate from Canon.

Seriously. The rebates are nice if you were planning on purchasing some new glass anyway, but its not going to make me run out and buy something.

Ah, I knew these were coming, but I couldn't wait. I had to have my 5D asap.

It sure would have been nice to get $300 bucks back!

I'm VERY tempted by a 5D and a 24-105mm f/4 IS... but I need a new computer/monitor more than I need a new camera.

Hopefully in a few years full frame DSLR's will be much cheaper - and maybe by then my photography skills will have improved a bit as well. :D

Yeah, I just purchased one from Etronics (listed on Canon's web site as an authorized dealer) and I got the Japanese version (grey market - no warranty.)

Needless to say, I'm really pissed off. I called the customer service line and they are supposed to get back to me tomorrow. Ugh.
