Falling macbook!

My Macbook fell about 2 feet off a low bench when i was at work, while open and on. Performance wise its still working perfectly (thank god) but when i open the screen now, i get a reasonbly loud rubbing noise from the top left corner, i'm guess its the bottom part of the screen rubbing on the body.

Anyway my question is; does anyone know the the screws, or part is to ajust the screen back to a none rubbing place?

It's not like Apple can't afford to repair a hinge or something. iPod sales are awesome, and recently the Macs have been selling through the roof, Apple CAN and most likely even if they knew it was user-related WOULD repair it.

I understand that but I also understand how people want to get something for free. There is definitely a line between the two and I think that if you damage your product then you should be the one to do something about it unless it is covered by some type of insurance. Now if it came messed up or started messing up internally, then sure Apple should do something about it, but when you drop it, its not Apple's fault. This is not to say that sometimes they are nice enough to replace it for you, but just take up for what you do, thats it.

I cant believe that people are saying this. Everyone who says that "why should apple pay to replace it" think about your own situation. Apple make these laptops (well they should do anyway) to be strong, and not break when they are dropped off a 2 foot bench.

And for everyone who is worried about apple loosing money, just take a minute to think about the labour they are using in china, and the small amounts they must pay their staff out there. Its a dog eat dog world. If your so worried about apple losing a couple of $, then you must be very selfish when you think how much they screw over their Chinese workers.

His machine is NOT broken. All it has is a noise when he opens it up (caused from his own fault FFS), yet someone says that warrents Apple replacing his whole notepad. Grow up, get a life, and take some responsibilty for yourselves. Now if you would care to look I have already started a thread on dropping macbooks as i have done it myself... twice, however instead of posting and trying to scam Apple and their genuine customers out of money I admitted my stupidity and COMPLIMENTED APPLE ON THE ROBUSTNESS OF THEIR MACHINES because SHOCK HORROR it still works. But oh no shold I take it back and get it replaced at someone elses expense? Grow up FFS.

It isn't about how much money Apple has or makes, it's about taking responsibility for your own mistakes or problems and not putting them off on someone else.

Not being honest only beacuse 'they can afford it' is a sucky thing to do anywhere. Tell them what happened, you might be surprised what they may offer you as a fix.

Eeek, i didn't know this would hit such a nerve! To be honest i don't want to call apple.

They were amazing when i had random shutdown syndrome it was less than a full week from me calling them to them sending back my macbook with a new motherboard, heatsink, trackpad and keyboard casing!

And obviously, its sods law a few days after that i would drop it!! Anyway i'm guessing no one knows about what part of the hinge needs ajusting or replacing, but thanks alot for your time.

Blimey looks like ive touched a nerve. No offence, but if you want me to grow up, maybe you should look at youself first. Im not the one ***** and blinding. Oh and by the way, please dont type whole sentences in capitals. Alot of people find it quite aggressive and rude.

Anyway, like I said, its a dog eat dog world. If you brought a car, and got a little knock on the side, you wouldnt really expect all the windows to shatter, and screws come loose in the engine, would you? I dropped my macbook a while ago on the way to get the top lid replaced because it went discoloured. It got a small dent in the corner, obviously got nothing to do with the discolouration at all. I got there, and they said I had mis-treated my macbook, and they wanted £120+ for a new top case, because apparently the warrenty was voided when I dropped it.

I took it to another apple repair place, and they told me how crap apple was in cases like this, and if there was a small scratch on it, they wouldnt replace anything. He said that he has been working as an apple repair man for over 20+ years, and he always hears the same story over and over, that apple wont replace something for this and that. So, if apple is screwing over all these people like that for petti things, then why shouldnt people try and get their monies worth. Apple are certainly seeing it that way.

My advice to you is to take it to a local apple service centre, and see if they will take the screen part off for you and see what it is rattling apart. It may just be a case of taking off the case, taking out whats rattling, and replace it again. If everything is working fine, then I cant see it being anything major.

Reminds me of that vanquish fool on digg a while back. Burned his laptop to hell with a torch or some sort and said he wanted a new one from apple or he'd sue.

2nd argument: so you WANT to make the chinese workers (that earn very little according to you) work even more so you can have your precious laptop that you dropped off the empire state building. Think about the workers damn it. Nice again.

we apple-fans just LOVE to get on our high-horses. Usually, it's concerning our superior operating system, no viruses, blah blah blah. But it's hysterical when we get so in love with ourselves that we get on our ETHICAL high horses, pretending to have the final say on what's right and wrong.

What car warranty covers accidents? That is why we have insurance.

...the first place you go to after an accident is the insurance company like the guys said above. what the hell does the dealer care for you after you bought the car? and in the car world, nothing that needs to be fixed is free. unless you have a massive accident and they touch-up some other part for sympathy.

What do you mean according to me? Its a well known fact about apple, and virtually every other company that make things in china. Do you think they make them there for a laugh or something?
Oh, and that so stupid what you just said. If you top case needs replacing, they dont just make 1 top case for you, they just constantly make them for warrenty repairs.

And how in earth would you explain to Apple the accident? Apple is not stupid, they won´t change it anyway! They will understand that the customer did this!
