This isn't an actual issue about the graphics and whatnot on my mac, it's the sound.

I installed it perfectly fine into a new Bottle, and then continued to run it right after it finished.

When I ran it, it gave the whole "fallout 3 will adjust your graphics settings blah blah", so I waited until I realize it froze, or just didn't respond.

After that, I closed crossover, restarted, and it came back up, and it was fine. I hit play and now it says:

"No sound device detected. Fallout 3 cannot run."

this confuses the crap out of me, because I run steam and some other games with sound.

any advice/help?

Have you checked the Crossover Compatibility forum yet?

I'd be interested to know if this game can run well in OS X. I'd love to play it if it can.

well, seeing as the game just came out like a couple days ago...i don't really think it would be on the list, even if it were compatible.

i could easily boot into bootcamp, but i really don't want to switch OS's for a silly game.

I haven't tried running it in Crossover Games. I never got Oblivion to work in it, either, and since it is mostly the same engine, I didn't expect it would work. I recommend just going to Windows with Bootcamp anyway. I realize it doesn't matter what OS I'm using when I play a game because it isn't like I do much of anything else when playing anyway.

It does matter what OS you use for some of us. Windows is better for gaming because thats what games are written for using the Windows/DX APIs, etc. The stress is I am less prone to game when I have 10 windows open in OS X with work tha I have to close to play a game for 20-30 min. I would rather be able to launch the game, leave my work open, play, and close it just like Windows users do (and I did when I was a windows user/hardcore gamer). Thus gaming in OS X is important to some of us.

Oblivion works in Cider so there is a chance that Fallout 3 could work but performance would most likely suffer.

Really, I'd love to be able to play it in Crossover Games. We could all vote for it on Codeweaver's site to try to help make it work.

Has anyone tried using the Cider hack?

Hey, im having exactly the same problem... but when i try to "boot" the game over to bootcamp, i get an error with the data2.cab file... HOW DO YOU DO IT?! ive been trying for hours to move tha one 5.5 gig file or whatever over to bootcamp but cant figure out how. please respond asap!!

You should have your fingers removed for typing such blasphemy! Fallout 3? A "silly game?" If there was ever a game worth dual booting for, it's Fallout 3 you silly heathen.

Seriously though, it's worth the minute or so it takes to reboot.

What is your BootCamp drive formatted as? If it's Fat32 there's your problem. The max filesize is about 4.2GB. If it's NTFS I have no idea why it won't copy.

I read up on some attempts with Wine for Fallout 3, and it doesn't work yet.

It's pretty much the game of the century. So I expect someone will port it, or at least try to. It might be a while though. If I understand right Crossover uses a windows 2000 emulator. So it won't run very well under crossover anyway. :apple:

Well it isn't really an emulator, but kinda is.

im using FAT so that would explain why it isnt installing correctly... but i was told you cant use NFTS formatting for bootcamp by an apple rep. Ive actually tried partitioning my hard drive with NFTS with a 90gig size and i cant seem to get it to work. (something about disk error when installing windows?) any tips on how to install xp with NFTS with a partition around 90gigs?

I installed with 60GB on my NTFS XP partition... I didn't do anything special. Just created the bootcamp partition then installed XP from the CD.

As for Fallout 3, there may end up being better luck with Cider than Crossover. No one has gotten it working with that yet, either, but Oblivion seems to work pretty well in Cider.

alot of cider games don't work that well, especially with most modern games.

i havent seen any cider games that work perfectly. the closest i came to perfect with cider is NFS: Most Wanted.

i tried oblivion and it wasn't bad but it wasn't good either.

I just tried installing Fallout 3 on Crossover as well and it said the exact same thing for me. I hope someone comes up with a solution soon! This game rocks.
