Hey so I'm trying to get Fallout 3 to run on the latest macbook pro 2.4 ghz i5 (no bto options). I've tried windows 7 professional 32 and 64 bit, but when I go to run the game it crashes before it can load. I boot camped a partition and installed the drivers off the install disc that came with my mac. Then I ran windows update and installed fallout 3 without the dlc packs.

The installation runs fine. It's only when I click play in the launcher it crashes with the 'This program has become unresponsive' window. I've tried both a fresh install and a patched 1.7 install. Nothing seems to help.

Could it be that the stock drivers that apple have provided are conflicting with the game somehow? I know it's not officially supported on Windows 7 but I had it running perfectly in the windows 7 build 7100 beta on my 2008 imac (8800GS).

Has anyone else got the game to run on the new macbook pros?

Hi

With the GOTY version, I had absolutely no luck

However, with the non-GOTY, patched to v1.7, it did work - however it crashed a lot

In the end, the most stable enviornment that I have found is Parallels 5 with Win 7 64 bit pro, on my 17" macbook. It doesn't crash at all, and runs great at full resolution and medium settings. It just slows down a bit indoors. Quite impressed really.

The only modification I had to do was a few .ini file modifications:

bUseThreadedBlood=1
bUseThreadedMorpher=1
bUseThreadedTempEffects=1
bUseThreadedParticleSystem=1
bUseMultiThreadedTrees=1
bUseMultiThreadedFaceGen=1
iNumHavokThreads=5
iThreads=9

I haven't tried it, but maybe these modifications will make it stable under bootcamp?

Fallout 3 and Windows 7 do seem to have issues working together, you'll find some good ideas/fixes on the Steam community forums.

I played Fallout 3 GOTY on an early 2008 MBP 2.6GHz with no issues at all.

In April I bought a new i7 MBP 2.67GHz and have a BootCamp install of Windows 7 64bit for PC games. I wanted to replay Fallout on this machine and experienced random freezes during the first minutes making it non playable.

Fortunately I kept the older MBP so I reinstalled Fallout 3 GOTY which is now playing well via Windows Vista again.

Other than switching computers I have no solutions to offer.

Well I've made some progress. It was the video drivers that apple supplies that was the problem. I loaded on the 258.49 nvidia drivers from laptopvideo2go and I was able to launch it.

Now it just freezes in random places during the start of a new game. Might try one of my older saves and see if it still happens.

That is exactly what the PC users experienced. Apparently it is in the game itself which needs a new patch to fix.

It seems the i5 acts as a quad core processor so I just adjusted the ini file and now it runs perfectly. Gets a bit toasty though but thats expected.
