Give me one good reason why Apple shouldn't, from their own perspective of wanting to keep all the control and generate all the income, pay somebody to put some really crappy, possibly even malicious, apps on alternative app stores or make them available for side loading?

Us users just want to run emulators and other "forbidden" stuff on our iPhones and iPads, but they must be anxiously waiting for an "I told you so" moment that let's the new distribution channels stay in a niche or generally fizzle out as quickly as possible. Thoughts?

I don't think they'll have to.
Agreed. There will probably be enough malicious ones that will do the work for them. People will get scammed (or worse), Apple will get their "I told you so" without having to make any effort on their part. Unfortunately, the EU forced the genie out of the bottle, and now that it's out...it won't go back in, no matter how bad things get. So thanks to them, we're stuck with this mess.
