My family and I (4 users) currently have the Apple Music Family Plan for $14.99/mo. I always get iTunes gift cards for 15% off so it really comes to about $12.75/mo. No tax either which is nice.

I was looking at and comparing to the YouTube Red/YouTube Music/Google Music option as well. For a family, it's also $14.99/mo. Spreads across 3 apps on the phone, but more compatibility on other devices. And my teenage kids watch a ton of YouTubers (can't believe that's a thing) so ad-free plus some additional exclusive programming is nice.

For me, it's mainly about the music. Are the song catalogs on YouTube Music/Google Music comparable? Any downsides? Has anyone jumped ship from Apple Music to this other option? Thanks!

I personally prefer Spotify because it seems to make the best suggestions. However, since that wasn’t part of your question, my preference is for Apple Music.

I think it does the 2nd best job of recommending new music and is easier to download music to the phone compared to GPM. I like Play Music and see huge value in ad-less YouTube viewing, but if your family uses iPhones, I’d stick with Apple Music
