Hi,

I am going to be re-configuring my wife's phone to set it up on a Family Sharing account. That will involve changing the Itunes ID currently being used on her phone. A few questions:

1. If the ID is changed, do you have to delete and reinstall all existing apps in order to not have to input the old password?

2. If yes, to No. 1 there anyway to easily reset/restore the phone to remove all existing apps so they can be re-downloaded with the new apple id? I thought about doing a Reset and setting it up as a new phone but wouldnt i then lose all of her other settings?

Thanks.

Your purchase history & download history should remain the same if you only change the name of the persons iTunes user ID. If your using a totally new account and want to link it to an old account then that's not possible. Your Apple ID is basically your DNA accross the entire Apple network & its product line.

Was just going to post this same question. I'm setting up Family Sharing for the first time now. Currently wife signed into her iCloud account and my iTunes account.

I'm going to assume that if I add her to the family, and then log her out and back into the iTunes Store with her account, that everything should be fine since those apps are now family shared?

I don't want to delete and reinstall apps as she'd lose any data or saved progress.

If you find out differently let me know.

Was anyone able to figure this out? Basically I want to preserve everything on my wife's phone (don't want to do set up as new phone cause she'll lose settings and message history) but I want to delete all downloaded apps so they will be associated with the new family ID.

I went ahead with setting up Family Sharing and moved my wife over. You don't have to delete and reinstall anything. Once you add her to the family, everything continues as it did before.

Nope. Everything updates just fine because as long as she's a member of the family, she is allowed to have those apps.

So once I added her to the family, I made sure she was logged into her iTunes account (instead of mine). She can see all of my purchases and download them if she wanted.

Hope this helps.
