I assumed that as the organizer of our Family Sharing plan (both family sharing on Apple in general and on the Music plan) that music that I uploaded on my account would be visible to the family members as well in their "My Music".

This does not appear to be the case.

Should it show up or am I just mistaken in my assumption? If I am mistaken, does that mean each member of the family can upload 25K songs?

Thanks.

It clearly states on Apple's site that family sharing for Apple Music will allow for a totally separate library for each member.

1. Where does it say that?

2. As written that could mean anything. "Allow" for a separate library doesn't mean the same thing as "not allow for" sharing a library.

Regardless, thanks for the response. I assume you are right.

I have had a ticket open for three weeks with Apple on this and only today did they say something to suggest that "maybe" music isn't shared between family members.

I think he's correct, but Apple's pretty vague about it. It's crappy, regardless. Match and Apple Music should extend across ALL devices in the family, and I doubt many assumed otherwise. Now I have to upload the same stuff that my wife wants from our shared CD collection that is not available on Apple Music. Yet another inelegant solution for Apple Music.

Exactly! Thank you!

Sharing of purchased music still works, just like apps. But each member gets their own Apple music library.

To me this makes perfect sense. My taste in music is not the same as my wife's, or indeed my son's. We can each have our own content without cluttering one another's libraries. It's exactly as I'd like it to be.

The one thing which could be improved is that if I download a track to my laptop, I'd like it also to sync to my other devices, and that doesn't appear to happen yet. That said Apple Music is only a few weeks old and will evolve over time.

Fair enough, but it all about search anyway (for my family at least).

You want to listen to something, you search for it. It doesn't really matter if there is content there you didn't upload.

What I haven't tried is sharing my local songs with my wife using the sharing icon in Apple Music. I suspect this may work on a family share but not on individual. Someone want to try it?

I do not see the option to share an uploaded song via iTunes/Mac.

On my iPhone - I have a share option, but when I select it I simply get a blank SMS or blank email message (depending which I choose).

So maybe that is not supported. I was thinking if you have ripped songs (not purchased since they are shared) you could select and share via the up-arrow-box - maybe not.
