I left my mba open, with the screen saver on, not running any programs for about 2 hours. Came back and the fan is at 6200rpm and the CPU temp is 180 degrees. It hasnt been doing anything at all. I dont understand why it is working so hard. What should I do? Thanks.

As long as it doesn't stay doing that constantly I don't think there is anything to worry about. Might have been indexing spotlight or something. Did you check what processes were running in the activity monitor?
I just checked...its still at over 6000rpms and in the avtivity monitor, in the CPU column for Safari it said like 98.1...so i closed it. And now I think the rpms are slowly but surely dropping. What was the problem though? Do you sometimes just have to close Safari to free up the CPU or something?
Hours ago I was on Youtube. But I x'd out of safari, and didnt close it completely. That keeps it running in some way I guess?
Yep for some reason it resides in the system, hogging resources and pushing your core temps up, hence the dramatically increased fan speeds.
Think it is just something we are going to have to live with until Adobe get their act together and make a decent flash player for Mac.

Alright, yeah that is somewhat of a pain. Well thanks for your help now I know mine's not broken.
CPU Fan
I just watched some episodes of Southpark from the http://www.southparkstudios.com website and after a while my fan got up to 6000rpm - it was still very quiet though. I think people with noisy fans should get their MBA looked at.

What you (the OP) describe is exactly what was happening to me. The culprit was an incompatibility between Safari and Flip4Mac. Once I would access a wmv video, the CPU would get hammered and the temp would jump up to 180+. If would stay there even if I was doing NOTHING with the computer, and it would stay hot until I quit Safari. Once I quit Safari, the temp would plummet and the fans would throttle back. I could reopen Safari and there wouldn't be a problem until I watched an wmv video, then the heatup would begin again.
Exactly. Apparently we need to "Quit" Safari at all times, instead of just "closing" it, until they fix this problem.
