My macbook core duo's fan goes crazy fast/loud for no reason. All I have to do is go on youtube, watch one flash video and the thing starts goin and i can barely hear the sound!! Is this normal? It never happened on my imac g5... Thanks!

Do you have temperature and fan speed readings when this happens? I would say that your situation sounds a bit abnormal to me.

Load up activity monitor (/Applications/Utilities) and see what the processor percentage is (sort the table by this), also what browser are you using? Some have problems with Flash sites...

I'm using firefox 2.0 I checked the CPU % and it goes from 4% to 37%-40%

Anyway to change this? Or should I just use safari?

haha i thought this thread was about a sports fan for a minute.. well anyway there are programs out there that control fan speed... i remember a thread not too long ago talking about the same thing... if you dig through macrumors i am sure you'll find it

WHen I was running the fan widget (I do not remember the name) mine did the same. I finally figured it out by opening the activity monitor to see what was using 80% of each core. It was the fan widget.

Mine does the same thing some times and I have always thought it was odd. It annoys me and I have a fan and temp monitor and both of them go up a lot for no reason other than a simple flash video or a couple of programs running at once.....Apple should probably fix this...

Nothing new about this? Nobody has an answer?

I always had this problem, and the other day I was at an old iBook viewing lots of youtube videos at once, and some videochat made with flash at the same time, and the iBook was smooth and didn't use the fans at all.

How can I understand my 2Gb RAM MacBook needs the fans to be able to show me some youtube videos? It doesn't make sense

Past year I thought it was because Flash or Safari had some PPC programming and it was running in Rossetta mode or something, but nowadays it has no sense, it's supposed to be 100% intel compatible

Please, I hope it can be fixed somehow someday!!! It's REALLY annoying
