Fan gone into overdrive since upgrading to 10.6.4

I've just upgraded and rebooted and now my fan is going crazy while all I've got running is Safari. Has anyone else noticed this?

Edit: ah there we go. I reset the SMB and that's brought the temperature down to 53c. 70c when idling had me worried for a while there.

Yeah, that'll be the one. SM 'B' was Apple's first revision. 'C' is a massive step forward.

I had the same issue you have encountered, fixed it too with reseting SMC.

Glad to hear it. I don't know about you, but I'm back to square one after installing 10.6.6 and this time resetting the SMC makes no difference. Anybody experienced this and know of a solution?

If all else fails, perhaps you can take it to an Apple retail store in Manchester?

Well I found out from the Apple forums that it's definitely some botch introduced by the latest update and as no fix is available I've reverted back to 10.6 by reinstalling Leopard. There's no way I could put up with that noise and extra heat any longer.
