Firstly, I'm loving using my new 13" MBA BTO with the 4gb ram.

Thought I would put it through a bit of a test to see if I could get the fan to kick in and I managed to do just by running a 1080p video on youtube, and opening all the apps on my dock. CPU usage wasn't running at max but there was a massive rise to what I normally use. Is it normal for the fan to be heard with this kind of usage? And how have others been getting on with their machines when running multiple apps?

Yes, normal, as YouTube uses Flash and the bigger the resolution, the more the CPU gets used, the more power is needed, the more heat is produced, thus the faster the fans.

Btw, why don't you use the 720p option, as the MBA has not 1920 x 1200/1080 as a resolution anyway?

Good point, I suppose it would run a lot smoother too on 720p. I'm really happy with the performance thus far, perfect for my needs.

Based on the OP's test the fans should come on with a doubt. I don't know why people have a cow over fans turning on, they're suppose to. I have a cow when the fans don't turn on and the computer starts heating up. Worry about something that doesn't work, not that does. ;)
