Fan Paranoia!

I have had my MacBook Pro for 2 days now, and other than startup, I never ever hear the fans kick on.

Now, either I'm overly paranoid, or this MacBook Pro is the quietest machine in the world. As long as I'm only surfing the net and sending emails, would I hear fan usage? Or is this thing this well built after they fixed the fan wires issue?

The only time my MacBook's fan makes a peep is when I'm running programs like World Community Grid and seti@home on the thing when it's plugged in.

Well, considering how hot things run these days (chips and chipsets), the fans run all the time, even when cool. In general you shouldn't be able to hear them at idle unless the room is really quiet. If they make more than just air movement noise (and whine, grind, or click) then maybe you should be worried. And by worried, I mean take it in and get them fixed, which is a 30 minute job max. for most techs.

I have had mine for a week now, and I am experiencing the same as you. I'm always amazed that it's so quiet.. uber quiet.. it's kind of disturbing in a good way, and it doesn't get that hot. I can keep the mac in my lap for hours and not be bothered by it. the c2d has definitely cooled things down, from cd given the reports i've heard about the cd versions have been. Actually the irony of the matter is i keep hearing a fan going on, from my PREVIOUS laptop, as it's just sitting on the ground, whenever i need it, and i only hear that one, faintly, but I don't hear mine. I tried a couple times listening up against my mbp to hear it, but I don't hear anything, plus my comp doesn't run hot, even if i'm sitting on my bed, with it sitting on a comforter, something I know I shouldn't do, but it hasn't gotten more than just a little warm, but nothing close to being unbearable. Go C2D MBP's!
