Is there a program under XP to control the speed of my Macbook's fan? I use smcFanControl under OS X to set the minimum speed to 3500 rpm. Unfortunately, in Windows I can't do this so the laptop gets very hot.

Any help?

Me three. My dual-boot Latitude Hackintosh is actually more usable than the MBP (apart from the stuff affected by the hack... :( ) but I would at least like the option of having native Windows on my MBP without my chestnuts roasting on an open fire.

I agree. I can't believe apple didn't address this when they released bootcamp. So Far all I've managed to find so far is a program called SpeedSwitchXP that allows me to intentionally clock the cpu down to 1ghz to keep the heat down.

Anyways- Does anyone know what heat threshholds the hardware is set to such that it will cut the power when the cpu gets too hot? Also, I've heard that CoreDuos can get up to 100 degrees C but this seems very inconsistent with processors getting smaller and smaller and having lower and lower heat tolerances. I know my 3 year old AMD would absolutly cook at 100 C.

have you guys tried speedfan? It might be able to control the fan speed and show temperatures.

I was playing Prey this weekend on my MBP C2D and the laptop would suddenly shut off.. I think it's because it got too hot at times.. I wish it'd run cooler..

Very cool...

Who would have thought that a remap utility would be able to control the fan speed. I actually had it installed and running and still didn't know all the power that I had at the whim of a few controls.

Great app!!!

Well what I do now is boot to OS X and start smcFanControl to whatever fan speed you want then restart the comp into XP. This keeps the same minimum fan speed that is in OS X. Only downside is that I have to boot into OS X first to have the fan speed (only after a full shut down, if you restart the comp for installing a program or windows updates you do not have to boot into OS X first)

Yes, this is what I was doing, but now that this utility does it through a simple adjustment within Vista, I do not have to jump through those hoops any more.

Now I have to go get my logic board replaced so that I can get the annoying high pitched squeel taken care of and I will one happy camper.
