Fan turns on/I've had to manually shut it down myself +3 times?

Hey everyone,

As some of you may know... I received my MacBook close to a month ago. I love it, and I don't seem to have any problems with it except for the fact that sometimes the fans start and won't stop. I've also had to manually shut it down myself 3 times (+ symbol because I can't recall for sure on others) because iTunes froze my computer twice and the other time was due to a program not quitting/the fans.

I was just wondering if this is even the slightest bit normal? I just don't want to be hurting my computer in any way... so any advice or tips you can give are welcomed!

As a new mac user I may not be able to tell you the root of the problem, but I can help you find it

Download the iStat Pro widget and as your fan is running higher than normal, check out what processes are running. There should be a percentage % next to the name of the process. List the name of the process and the percentage at which it is using your computers memory, from there we can try and help you identify what is causing your computer to run as if its being overworked.

I had this same problem about an hour ago with my brand new 2.4 Ghz MackBook Pro, I checked iStat pro and it turns out one of my widgets (which i had attempted to uninstall) was acting a bit wonky. I searched for any files it had left behind, deleted whatever I could find, and restarted. My fan rpm went down, now I'm problem free.

If that does not work... you could try SMC fan control. I use it and I love it. Handy little program for menu bar style monitoring of your temps and fan speed, lets you control separate speeds for charging, ac, battery power, etc.
