Hi,

I got my macbook yesterday, and realised that it was suffering from some cow-like noises. I then updated it with the firmware update to fix the said moo, and now the moo is gone, but I've noticed that the fans get really hyped up, and the macbook is barely warm. Prior to the update I recall how the laptop would be burning hot, and the fans wouldn't make a significant sound. Of course it seems like they're doing their job now, but still, there are times when the macbook isn't burning, not even near, and the fans just suddenly go on, full speed.

Anyone experienced this?

Same. I just got a black MB two days ago. Updated the firmware last night and the fans are now running like crazy. Never heard them before. I didn't even have moos before.

yeah, it seems to be happening to me also. I start playing a low quality movie fullscreen and fans are on full power. Does anyone know if you can remove the update?

That's odd. My macbook still runs quite hot after the update and yet I also hear the fans on occasion. Maybe once every hour and a half they'll totally spin up. When playing a video for a couple of minutes under VLC I wasn't able to make the fans turn on.

Mine's a newer macbook though (first week of August).

the firmware update keeps the fans on all the time, regardless of temp. I woke my MacBook up one morning, it was stone cold, and the first noise i hear are the fans going!. CoreDuoTemp said the CPU was 9 degrees C.

I think they go harder as well. I was ripping a movie on HandBrake, and i thought it was going to take off! It was a good 10 C cooler than before the firmware update though.
