Well i never played before ads, but i don't have a problem with a free site trying to earn some cash. It pays the bills!

Which is why i try to click on the ads occasionally for ALL the free sites i visit, and even though i have no clue if it earns him money - i buy most, if not all, my apps via appshopper.

i'm not a fan of ads on iPhone apps though - the screen is too small and it really detracts. Which isn't to say that i LIKE ads on sites, i just realize they pay the bills!

This is a bit offtopic, but you also need to realize that

1) The website is paid per click

2) The advertiser (The one who posts the ad) pays per click too.

Adsense example: Site A gets paid 0.25$ per click. Site B pays 0.40$ per click. Google pockets 0.15$.

You help one website pay the bills and make the bill uselessly bigger for another.

I ain't judging, it's just to let you know...

I guess that I'm thick. I didn't understand anything about what you just posted.

So then why would anyone advertise? If you didn't want people to CLICK (raising your advertising bill) then don't advertise.

And i've only ever clicked on ads that i'm interested in.... like this Olive Garden one showing right now. It's lunch time and i'm hungry and it looks sorta good.

But hey, now i know how to get back at any company i have a beef with... click their ads.

People advertise so people interested in their ads click on them. Not just people wanting to help the guy that posts the add.

I agree. And i don't click on stuff i'm NOT interested in, but if something catches my eye i don't say hey, i'm going to go to iskin and check that out. I click on the add link. Why not? It is the same at dpreview. Before Amazon bought them i tried to do my browsing thru their ad links. It's the least i can do - in fact, i felt guilty when i was running pith helmet and not seeing the ads. Sites that run amuck with ads are a turn off. But neither MR nor DPR strike me that way.

Boycotting a site that places ads to pay the bills (or make money) is wrong unless you offered to pay to keep the site ad free. There might be a back story that i don't know about, which is fine. I don't find the ads on the online version of Fantastic Contraption offensive at all. To each his own right?

However, I unfortunately can't support Arn here at MacRumors with a donation - it's on my list to do when i have some money available. So meanwhile, i can help him out by clicking on ads when i can, and using the links on Appshopper to buy my apps.

His time and effort are appreciated.... sites don't run themselves, and especially not ones with forums the amounts that are here (i've owned a message board before).

All of which has nothing to do with the fact that i am really ENJOYING the game and do thank the person for the time sucker :D

I had a paid account! Thats what pis*ed me off. If it was a free site such as macrumors then go a head put ads on. But if i pay for an account then i shouldn't have to put up with ads, especially when they weren't there at the time of purchase. They should have a site with ads for free users and if they buy an account no more ads. Simple.

I agree 100% with that.

In fact, i'm glad to hear from you that the paid version isn't different because i was considering it for the kids. However, i'll just stick with the "free" for now, kids suck enough money out in other ways!

And i'll drop them a note to let them know WHY i won't be paying. I was frustrated that my iPhone App purchase didn't mean i had access to any of the other levels and stuff online. Guess i'll mention that to them while i'm at it.

If you click an ad link enough the advertiser will think that the website owner has a friend just clicking the ads to make money and will most likely stop using their website for advertising, meaning the website won't get any money.

Good to hear. I sent them an email as well when they first put ads on and got no reply. If you check the FC discussion boards you will find there was a huge backlash against the ads.

Oh and sorry to the OP for kinda hijacking your thread so i watched the video and it was good. I use to make some pretty crazy contraptions (but not that good) back when i was not boycotting and that video makes me want to go back to it. grrrrr... I will hold out though.

MacRumors has ads, you better log out ASAP.

Yeh but i didn't pay to use macrumors, plus macrumors has always had ads so if i paid for it i would know what i was getting. Unlike FC where i paid for a site with no ads and then got a site with ads.

Well done on reading the whole thread.
