hi guys, definitely a newb, forgive me. if there's already a thread, apologies, definitely couldn't find it. been lurking for 'nuff long now.

so, i was wondering, what is the best spec a current MBP can be upgraded to? if money was no object, obviously...

not that i want to - i mean the expense makes it infeasible - but let's discuss it, just for kicks.

i'm thinking the only possible upgrade to the existing MBP would be sticking a [currently] huge SSD 2.5" drive in - like the 256GB PiQ drive. the 416GB BiTMICRO drive out Q2 2008 would be nicer.

educate me further people. or alternatively, slag me off, as i'm half expecting from some people!

cheers

Uh... best you could do, right now, is

2.6GHz Core 2 Duo
LED Backlit screen @ 1440*900
320GB SATA, or 256GB SSD (yes still SATA)
4GB RAM

That's not an upgrade option from Apple and then CPU is soldered to the board.

We have a winner!

You know, if the other guy was going to nitpick what i said... jeez at least go over board...

8.2THz Core 17 Ridiculous Processor
?PB QHD (Quantum Holographic.... All the data you have ever had, will ever have, and never had. All on one drive)
nVidia 888800M GTX
5 fold out 15" screens with WXSTFUWTFBBQWATERMELONUMBRELLA-GA resolution (but with resolution independence you never would know it)
Chartreuse-Ray burner

lmao. i love the huge amount of anticipation for such products as holographic storage. and i heard the next MBP would have at least a 1THz Quad Core Monkeyheimler processor my oh my.

Same as above, but a 2.8 ghz processor.

interesting, but how would you upgrade the processor when the existing one is soldered? desolder the other and solder a 2.8 on?

sounds like a nightmare to me...

And of course, fanless, batteryless operation (operates on 1. invisible-rays + 2. magnetic field of the earth). What notebook would it be without all that? :D

But seriously, 2.6GHz is the most you can ask for from Apple. At least for now.

Listen, last I heard, it was only 479 pins.... on ~1" squared not that hard... man, you make it sound difficult or something :)

That would be heavy. But the barbecue-watermelon-umbrella resolution settings make it totally worth it!

Seriously, as long as Apple keeps cramming in new components, people will continue to buy. And some people will continue to complain that Apple does not upgrade often enough and that current components are out-of-date or underpowered (eg. the GPU). But they will buy it anyway.

Sorry, slip of the mind there. I thought that Apple made it upgradeable to 2.8 instead of 2.6 :p
