UPS dropped off my phone a little bit ago and I love it so far but two things struck me as odd. The first is that my battery drained fron 100% to 72% in roughly half an hour. In that time all I did with the phone was turn it on, start a few apps and ran a speed test on the 3G network.

It should not drain that fast. At this rate it will last a few hours with no usage. Is anyone else having this issue?

Another strange thing is that the speed test I ran came in at 600kb down/100up. That is slower then my 3G phone (I tested it at the same time)

me too. put for a full charge before i really started to use it and already back to 95% after a couple texts.

Ok. With a full charge (charged it all night) I performed 3 speed tests and the phone went from 100% to 82%. An 18% hit in 5 minutes. I wonder if it is just the percent meter thats off.

yep im getting some pretty worrying numbers on the battery meter. im draining my battery then will recharge it fully. will hopefully get some better results then. i have push on but i would really perfer to leave it on..same with 3G and location services.

maybe its just a 3.0 issue?

check your settings and turn the location off if you dont need it. the gps drains the battery really fast.
my new 3Gs rocks, yesterday from 3 pm to 9 pm with heavy usage went from 70% to 35%.
way better than my 3G:)

I think my 3Gs is draining the battery pretty quickly too.

My 3G would happily last all day with Wifi, Bluetooth, Location, Push and 3G turned on (although I rarely had a 3G signal where I live). I charged it every night.

I charged my 3Gs last night before going to bed (100%) and when I woke up it was at 84% and having had moderate use today it's just died on me.

It could be because 3G is now using more juice. It could be because I'm using it more because it's new. Hopefully it's the latter and it will settle down once the novelty wears off again!

False. Since 2.1, it no longer matters if GPS is on or off. IT does not affect the battery life.

Are you sure about this? If I leave location services on (and don't use GPS), the battery seems to drain faster.

That's definitely faster than it should be. A new battery will have shorter charge cycles at first, but after about a week it should be at its peak. I'd wait a week and see if it improves.

1st drain and then full charge is today, 7 hours, 57 minutes standby... usage 1 hour, 3 minutes..... 77%.... doesnt sound to good

Glad I'm not the only one...

1st full day with the 3GS 32 gig. Charged all night. Took it out. Was great really. Lots of juice. Then it started sinking faster and faster so I charged it. Was at 40% when we went to dinner. While at dinner I saw it at 34%. Within a few SECONDS of that, the phone turned itself off and would not come back on.

I then took it out to my car and plugged it into my charger. It showed the battery as completely dead! I saw it go from 34% to NOTHING almost immediately.

So then, after that I charged it up on the ride home. The phone worked great. I ran it down to below 17% then took it downstairs to charge for the night. That's when I noticed that it said it was at 17% but then almost right after it backed up and synced, it was at 77%!!!!

I don't get it. The local Apple Store is closed for renovation and I doubt ATT can change out the battery so what's left to do?

Hi,

does anyone feel like the battery metre is crap!

I have a 32 gb 3gs and charge it all night and it doesn't say 100 % charge only got up to 99% is that right????

Also completely drains in 1 day of use and that's not when it's been overlyused.

I think my 3g battery is better!

Try disabling Push.

You guys are experiencing problems. I've had 3GS for two cycles now and am astonished at the battery life. Leaving it 8 hours puts me at 96%.

Have you drained completely then recharged?

Latest update. I took it in to see the Genius' today. They ran diagnostics on the unit and said that there is definitely something wrong so they gave me a brand new replacement. They said the unit's best standby time was 3 hours and it should have been far more than that. He also said that the current percentage showing was 90% but the diagnostics showed the phone had about 1.4 hours left of standby. Since they couldn't replace the battery, brand new phone it was.

Just wanted to let you all know.

Fred

LOL.. great. so I tested video today. Started at 100% Played all three Lord Of The Ring movies. Almost 10 hours no problem. I charge back up to full and load one web page using 3g and go from 100% to 96% in 30 seconds. Something is off.. I am thinking the meter.

Hi,
I did some testing and I am 90% sure that the more the battery gets drained the slower the % of the battery goes down.
To go from 100% to 90% is much faster then if you go from 40% to 30% for example and so on.

I recon it measures the voltage to get a %. and that is not accurate.
