Two part question:

I've read and seen on YouTube that the initial TM sync to a NAS can take many hours (if not 1+ days).
  1. Is it possible to take the TM from my existing external HDD, transfer to the NAS HDD via hard wire, and then re-map the TM location? (Alternatively, I can use the existing external HDD and attach to the NAS, though that seems to defeat the purpose of having a NAS.)
  2. Also, are there any issues with syncing 2 Macs to the same NAS HDD? My husband and I have always maintained 2 separate external HDDs as our own TM. Any concerns with having 2 Macs syncing to 1 HDD? I figure that I'll have to partition the drive and time daily syncs to occur at different times during the day/night for each of our Macs.

Time Mac first make a whole copy of you system! Then after that any change you make surfing cache, picture, etc. This is has happen throughout its lifetime! So if you want the quietest speed during the whole copy directly connect to it!

Just do the initial backup over the network, ideally with a wired connection. Yes, it can be a little slow. No, there really isn't a good work around.

Backing up multiple Macs to a single share & drive on the NAS works fine. You don't have to worry about it.
