I got a broken 27" late 2009 iMac, I had it fixed (removed broken spinning HD and installed an SSD) but it didn't last over a year (well spent money by the way) and now I am getting a 2012 Mini and I have two options screen wise, my old plexiglass 23" Cinema Display HD (which needs a Thunderbird to DVI adapter, I already have the ADC to DVI one) or the iMac 27", if I recall correct, you can use it as a screen only without to have it to boot the OS but I don't remember the startup sequence to use it this way, does anybody remember how to do so, is it by starting with the Shift key pressed or what?

Grazie

p.s. 27" once you get used to is hard to go back...

Thank you but that doesn't answer my question since I am not in the position to be able to boot the iMac, boot will not get anywhere if I recall correct because of the corrupted video board.

Thanks anyway

Giovanni

According to Apples instructions, you can't enter Target Display Mode if the iMac is not booted so you can enter Command+F2 on the iMacs keyboard to enter TDM.
