Hey guys, so I made a post earlier about how irritated I was getting with my iMac being really loud. So, I called AppleCare, and they basically helped me reset some basic things, which didn't really help. If anything, made the whole thing even worse.

I have tried to get used to it, not pay attention, you know all that, but it's seriously just driving me completely nuts. Every time I open an application, it goes completely crazy and gets REALLY loud.

So, I'm thinking of dropping it off at the Genius Bar sometime soon, and my question is, is it actually worth it? Would Apple replace a HDD just because it's too loud, or would they just basically tell me to get used to it?

Has anyone had to deal with anything like this before?
I've had my iMac since Christmas, and it's been pretty flawless, flicker or yellow, none that I could see anyway.

Thanks very much for your help :)

P.S. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my HDD, but some of my applications have also been crashing, especially Safari. And I get the beachball almost daily.

Repair your permissions and verify the disk with Disk Utility. Take a look at my guide as well but skip 3, 5 and 6.1.

If it really is loud, then they should replace it

Alas, it seems that many of the Seagate 1TB HDD can be rather on the loud side. Check the forum as there is at least one of two lengthly threads discussing the "stomach rumbling" noise this HDD seems to exhibit. My first iMac 27" had a 1TB Seagate HDD and it seemed rather loud so I swapped it out and got a 2TB Hitachi HDD instead (seems a lot quieter than the Seagate). The bad news however is Apple have since found a "neat" way of addressing the issue in the form of this Tech Support article (last paragraph is relevant):

As for the spinning Beach Ball, that really shouldn't be happening on such a brand new machine.

Thanks for the help :) I actually called today, and they just told me to set up an appointment at the Genius Bar, and I did that. So I'll be taking my iMac to the Apple Store on Thursday. Hopefully they'll give me a WD HDD. I hear those are MUCH quieter.
