Bought this imac last November and have had various problems. The latest being the SuperDrive. For some while I have been having problems with the drive either not reading/writing to CD,grumbling, grinds, buzzing and rattling, can sometimes insert a disk but the drive does not see it and asks for a disk to be inserted. So I took it to my local Apple authorized repairer, been in since Tuesday and got it back today. New optical drive fitted but exactly the same problems, have got to take it back again next week for further investigation.
More inconvenience.

Should add this is using Disk Utility to append data to an existing disk or starting a new disk

What do you guys think about it, anyone else had the same problem.

Anyone ????????

I had similar problems with the SuperDrive in my 3 yo iMac. Sometimes the drive would work, other times not. Sometimes, it would not even grab the disc. I had the same symptoms of loud noises, long spinning times, etc. Pretty much exactly what you experienced. I eventually got sick of it and bought an external drive by plextor. The first one that came was a dud. Amazon replaced it for free and now it work great. Good luck.

Don't be surprised if the first one that is shipped doesn't work. Doesn't really matter since it's so easy to return things with Amazon.

Thanks for your reply.
As my imac is still under warranty I think this is up to Apple to sort out, don't you ?.
