Does anybody else find that the USB ports on all Macbook's often become faulty after a couple years? Even the slightest touch of my external hard drive will disconnect the device. And, the same thing happened on my old macbook.

Is this another case of planned obsolescence from the guys and girls of Apple?

Are you sure it is not your external harddrive?
I have never experienced a faulty USB on a Mac in my support circle which stretch back to machines from 2011. I do however have an external harddrive (Lacie) which have a faulty connection on its side, so the slightest touch disconnect it.

I don’t think I’ve experienced any USB port failure on any of the ~80 of Macs I was responsible for over the last couple of years.

Well, I guess it's just my bad luck! This def happened with my last Macbook (on multiple devices) and is now happening again on anything I plug in the left USB (the right one can't even be used without the device immediately force ejecting).

Thanks for your replies

what kind of devices do you use?

OP:
What year is the MacBook?
What kind of devices are you connecting to it?
